![]() ![]() ![]() Cloud and the world of Midgar is exactly that. Regardless of the medium, I’m a fan of telling a great story with very well rounded characters. Up until Final Fantasy VII Remake, the majority of your career was in TV and Film, what drew you to taking on what is arguably one of the most beloved characters in gaming history? How much of a difference was it going from the set to the studio? Final Fantasy and Cloud have been apart of fan’s lives for years and years, so this win, as incredible as it would be for me, would be more important for the longtime fans. I set out in the beginning to simply do my absolute best because I felt (and still do) the game and the character are much bigger than myself. For me to even be considered amongst the other nominees gives me a feeling of such accomplishment. Each one of these games are ground breaking and each of the performances are “award worthy”. I hate to repeat myself but being nominated amidst such a group of talent is honorable. What does it mean to you to be considered in the same category as these actors and what would it mean to you to win? You’re up against some stiff competition with the likes of The Last of Us Part II’s Ashley Johnson and Laura Bailey, Cyberpunk 2077’s Cherami Leigh, Ghost of Tsushima’s Daisuke Tsuji, and Marvel’s Spider-man Miles Morales’ Nadji Jeter. To see it being recognized in such a degree leaves me speechless. I couldn’t be more proud to have contributed to such an iconic game/character. Most recently, the BAFTA Games Awards recognized Cody Christian for his performance as Cloud Strife in the 2020 remake, nominating him for Best Performer in a Leading Role. This was likely due to the fact that Steve Burton is a union-based voice actor Square Enix only allows Burton to be the voice of Cloud in English and he must be credited as such.Since it’s release, Final Fantasy VII Remake has earned a litany of awards. According to Burton, he was never asked to voice Cloud in Super Smash Bros. Although Steve Burton voices Cloud in English, only his Japanese voice actor, Takahiro Sakurai, is heard in all regions of the game.He's also the first third-party swordsman in the series.Cloud is the first Square Enix character in the Super Smash Bros. ![]() Cloud is the first character to have his victory theme continuously play over the results theme, with the second being Joker.Cloud is the only character with an alternate costume based on a movie, being Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children.He fights opponents on traveling vehicle stages. ( 乗り物.? 興味ないね, Norimono.? Kyōmi nai ne ?, A vehicle.? Not interested), referencing his motion sickness and his catchphrase, "Not interested.". In Classic Mode, the name of his route is called A Ride? Not Interested. Like in Smash 4, Cloud remains in Japanese audio in all regions. Although his move set is largely unchanged, Cloud received noteworthy changes to his Limit Break mechanic his Limit Gauge is now constantly displayed next to his damage meter, and a full Limit Charge must be used within 15 seconds before it depletes entirely. ![]()
